6 PS4 Games Every Gamer Should Own

Sony’s Playstation 4 is one of the most powerful gaming consoles ever released. Its popularity has created a huge market for big name as well as independently developed games. New titles are released every week and every year means advances in technology that produce more impressive games. The genres and styles of gameplay now range from first-person shooters to turn-based combat and more. We’ve put together a list of some of the best games to have been released for the platform.

1. God Of War

God Of War

God of War is the seventh release in Sony’s wildly popular franchise of the same name. The series is a Playstation exclusive and has been featured on the PS2, PS3, PlayStation Portable and PS4. The latest installment is shaping up to be the best in the series. It features a well-developed storyline, incredible graphics and days worth of gameplay. Featuring one of the greatest protagonists ever featured, the new release explores the relationship between Kratos and his son. The difficulty of the boss battles and general gameplay did not live up to all gamer’s expectations but the game overcomes this to solidify its place on our list.

2. Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is the latest from Ubisoft’s well-loved series. The new and original storyline is immersive and engrossing with beautiful action scenes and settings. The open-world map is huge and there are plenty of side missions to extend gameplay. With well-developed characters, companions and a crazy storyline, every minute of the game is enjoyable. Whether you follow the main storyline or spend your time hunting and completing side missions, you remain engaged and entertained. The game sticks very close to the formula of the previous releases, so there is little in the way of innovation but it obviously works.

3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was released August 2017 but holds firm as one of the best games available on the PS4. The Lost Legacy features come characters seen briefly in previous installments, Chloe Frazer, Nadine Ross and Sam Drake, (brother of previous protagonist Nathan Drake), on their global search for valuable relics. The game’s storyline does not follow the previous installments but the newer characters and plot breathe fresh life into the series. The visuals are breathtaking, the gameplay is imaginative and the settings and challenges are very well-thought out. The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and it is difficult to find any negative opinions of the game.

4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in 2015 but has yet to be overtaken in popularity by other RPGs available on the PS4. It is the newest from a line of games based on a series of novels. The game itself is massive and provides enough gameplay to rival that of Grand Theft Auto 5. The lead character Geralt of Rivia is better developed and more well-rounded than most. The main story is rich in its own right but the seemingly endless side quests and missions will keep you busy and entertained. The only drawbacks are of a technical nature and are usually related to loading times and quality issues with framerates.

5. The Last of Us: Remastered

The Last of Us: Remastered

The Last of Us was released in 2013 and is an original and story-driven take on the zombie survival genre. The remastered version of the original game was released and reminded us all why we loved it so much the first time around. The heart of the plot is in the relationship between Joel and Elle as they attempt to survive in a world overrun with zombies. Along with the original gameplay, the remastered version comes with the "Left Behind" expansion pack which focuses on Elle’s character and her best friend Riley as well as multiplayer option. Although the remastered graphics are enhanced, they do not justify purchasing the game a second time.

6: Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is an open world, third person RPG that focuses on Aloy, a hunter gatherer who lives in a world that has been taken over by machines. It has been described as one of the most beautiful console-based games ever made. The world in the game is absolutely massive and the main storyline is supplemented with intriguing side missions. Every aspect of the game is detailed and interactive and beautifully rendered. This game is incredibly well-made and should be part of every gamers library.

Sony’s Playstation 4 is an immensely popular console and boasts a library of thousands of games. Video games have become a one hundred billion dollar industry since the time of the first consoles. The PS4 is powerful and gives game developers an incredible platform to showcase their games and stories. Amongst a sea of uninspired and poorly-made games, these are games that only come around once-in-a-lifetime.
